If canine asthma is left untreated, it can lead to respiratory problems and other more serious complications. Weight control and removal of irritants can go a long way in dealing with the problem. A dog suffering from any of these symptoms should be examined by a veterinarian for a complete diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan. Signs of asthma can resemble those seen in other diseases; therefore a physical examination should be performed to rule out the existence of any other medical condition. Various treatment options are available depending upon the severity of the disease. Antihistamines are frequently recommended.
