Diagnosis of the condition can be obtained through laboratory testing. Treatment of canine hypothyroidism is easily maintained with a synthetic thyroid hormone. Testing of thyroid levels needs to be conducted on a regular basis to monitor the patient’s reaction to the medication. Thyroid medication has to be given for the rest of the dog’s life; although dosage and frequency will be dependant upon the severity of the disease. |
