Diagnosis of Feline Lymphoma |
A series of tests and other diagnostic measures can be conducted as a means of diagnosing feline lymphoma. Biopsies, x-rays, bone marrow aspirations, and ultrasounds can be used to rule out other diseases. A complete chemistry panel including a blood platelet count is commonly used in diagnosing a condition of this type. Laboratory blood testing will help diagnose the presence of anemia and liver or kidney issues; all of which can impede the treatment. Cats diagnosed with feline leukemia virus are considered to be predisposed to feline lymphoma. A physical examination of the patient can disclose the presence of tumors or abnormal growths in the abdomen or chest cavity. Additional measures such as radiographic studies, CY scans, and MRI scans can be conducted to confirm the presence of a tumor. These tests will also show the size and scope of any tumor and help identify the organs which have been affected. A fine needle aspirate can be performed to detect the presence of lymphoma cells in the liver and spleen. Fluid from bone marrow can also be aspirated and analyzed. Biopsy samples taken from related areas will aid in confirming a positive diagnosis. Numerous medical options are available in the treatment of feline lymphoma. The severity of the disease and the age and health of the patient will be taken into consideration when making a treatment decision. |
