Holistic Pain Therapy Treatments for Canines

Conventional medicine is not always able to relieve continual pain; therefore many pet owners have turned to holistic medications and treatments.  Several holistic measures are available to treat dogs in chronic pain, such as acupuncture, herbal therapy, hydrotherapy, manipulation therapy, nutritional therapy, and physical therapy.

Each animal is evaluated individually, so the right therapy can be chosen.  Holistic therapies take the natural approach in seeking pain relief.  Patients do not experience side effects when being treated with natural medicines.

Many factors play a role in choosing the correct therapy to treat an animal in pain.  The level of pain varies from one dog to another.

Some of the more commonly used natural treatments include:

Acupuncture:  Stimulates the body to release endorphins and cortisol as it creates certain responses that cause healing to take place.  This procedure has healing effects on the body.

Acupuncture:  Preventative treatment that requires the strategic insertion of special needles.  Provides health stimulation and has been found to be effective for the relief of digestive problems, and the treatment of hormonal imbalances.

Homeopathic Treatments:  The use of medication that uses very small doses of natural substances; things such as flowers, seeds, herbs, and berries as a remedy.   In some instances, homeopathic remedies can be used in conjunction with a conventional course of treatment.

Hydrotherapy:  Enlists the use of water in the treatment of arthritis, obesity, and pain management.  Hydrotherapy is supportive in both pre and post surgical treatments.  Arthritis and dysplasia benefit from the attributes of hydrotherapy.
