Home Care Remedies for Feline Arthritis

There are many options available to owners of arthritic felines to provide relief of the pain and discomfort of this debilitating disease.  Most of these options are very easily accomplished and will provide a better quality of life for the arthritic cat.

Acupuncture - Can be used to reduce the pain and discomfort of arthritis.

Glucosamine & Chondroitin – Natural supplements that are considered to be safe and come highly recommended for arthritic cats.  Glucosamine is reported to slow down the erosion of cartilage in the joints.

Heat – Bedding can be warmed in the dryer or wrapped around a hot water bottle and placed in the cat’s bed.

Homeopathic Products – Many homeopathic products including Spirulina and Devil’s Claw are used to naturally support the muscles and joints.

Massage – Arthritis discomfort can be eased with a gentle massage.  This is most effective when done in a circular motion.

Weight management – Dietary measures can be initiated to keep an arthritic cat’s weight under control, thus eliminating possible obesity.  An exercise program should be provided in conjunction with dietary measures.
