Using Home Remedies to Treat Feline Ear Mites

Several home remedies can be used in the treatment of feline ear mites.  Many oils such as corn oil, mineral oil, or olive oil can be used to clean infected feline ears.  Green tea and white vinegar are also excellent choices in the treatment of ear mites.  Tea tree oil is a dangerous exception and should never be used on a cat’s ears. 

The ears should be very carefully cleansed.  Next, put a few drops of corn oil or mineral oil on a cotton ball and apply to the infected area, gently massaging the ears.  In essence, this will aid in smothering the ear mites and lessening the healing time.

Green tea has been proven to have natural antiseptic properties that help remove excess wax, kill germs, and rid the ears of droppings left by the mites.  Removal of wax will take away the ear mite’s food source.  After applying the tea treatment; olive oil or mineral oil can be massaged into the ears to suffocate the mites.  Warm the oil before putting it in the cat’s ears.  The ears can be massaged again, after the oil has been applied.
