Symptoms of Feline Strokes |
Although, feline strokes are rare occurrences, a cat suffering from a stroke will frequently lose its balance and walk in a sluggish manner. Cats have also been observed miscalculating distance and falling. Paralysis is another primary clinical sign of a stroke. A portion of the cat’s facial muscles may be affected, consequently affecting its capability to eat. Some cats may exhibit facial spasms or spasm in the legs. Strokes paralyze a cat’s throat muscles; causing difficulty in swallowing, which can lead to choking episodes. Strokes can affect the cat’s nervous system or abdominal muscles, causing a cat to lose control of urination or elimination of stool. Activities such as stumbling, moving very slowly, or showing signs of difficulty keeping their balance may be observed in some cats. Cats will steer away from normal catlike activities, such as running or jumping. Depending upon the severity of damage caused to the brain cells, a cat may encounter abnormality in sleeping habits and a change in behavioral traits. A once friendly cat may suddenly feel fear at seeing people with whom it was closely acquainted at one time. If any of these symptoms are observed in a cat, immediate veterinary care should be sought |
